About The Position

This is a professional casework intern position within the Children and Youth Agency. The intern will be assigned to a specific unit and will be trained in the range of social and case management services provided through that unit. All work is performed under the close supervision of a Children and Youth Agency Casework Supervisor. The intern will also team with other caseworkers to learn skills such as face-to-face interviews, intakes, assessment, completing documentation and dictation, developing plans, working with individuals and families, and interacting with provider staff and documentation. Assignments are structured to provide a progressively responsible work experience and allow for direct application of established social work principles. Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student with junior standing in an accredited undergraduate bachelor’s degree program in sociology, social welfare, psychology, or other related social sciences; completion of the first semester of the junior year (75 credits); and satisfactory completion of fifteen (15) credits in one of the major fields of study.
  • Completion of an Employment Application Supplement form (attached), signed by appropriate school official and included with the application for the intern position.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with clients, their families, and other professionals.
  • The ability to establish relationships with clients that will facilitate development and implementation of case plans to ensure child wellbeing.
  • Flexibility and energy to meet unpredictable and emergency nature of caseload demands.
  • The ability to gather sufficient information to analyze complex situations accurately and respond to stressful situations in a constructive manner.
  • The ability to work cooperatively to enhance team functioning within the unit and to contribute to overall Agency goals.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening test.
  • Must have acceptable and completed background check that includes criminal, ChildLine, and FBI record checks prior to the start of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history in accordance with County Policy
  • Must have the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in and completes all related training and learning requirements during the internship.
  • Provide casework services and also monitor the care of neglected and/or abused children of whom the Agency may or may not have custody, in addition or providing caseworker services to the biological parent(s).
  • Arrange and conduct home visits with families and children.
  • Supervise visits between the biological parent(s) and the children as appropriate, in addition to conducting home visits.
  • Develop and implement Family Service Plans, Child Permanency Plans and any following reviews or necessary amendments.
  • Prepare case histories, correspondence, reports and records as required, as well as complete dictation for work completed.
  • Develop working knowledge of service plans with the family and understanding of ongoing services.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required, as well as participate in supervisory conferences.
  • Routinely provide own transportation to and from client homes, meetings, outreach visits and other job-related appointments in a timely manner with reasonable accommodations.
  • Access, facilitate, and coordinate agency and community services for families.
  • Develops basic understanding of and utilizes the CAPS case management system.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
