About The Position

Easterseals PORT Health is a nonprofit provider of mental health, substance use, disability, and community-based services across North Carolina and Virginia. We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dedicated intern to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. This internship offers a meaningful opportunity to learn within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team while supporting adults living with serious mental health challenges and co-occurring substance use disorders. The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team delivers intensive, community-based services designed to help individuals achieve stability, independence, and improved quality of life. This is a hands-on learning experience that takes place in real-world community settings, not a traditional office or facility environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program related to mental health, human services, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based applications
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to complete assigned projects independently and on time
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics
  • Interest in community-based behavioral health and recovery-oriented care

Responsibilities

  • Participate in initial assessments and support the development of Person-Centered Plans (PCP)
  • Observe and assist with individual and group therapy sessions
  • Collaborate with ACT team members to support treatment planning and service delivery
  • Utilize ACT-based analytical and recovery-oriented approaches to adjust strategies and interventions
  • Provide modeling, reinforcement, redirection, and guidance to promote independence and skill development
  • Gain exposure to crisis response, care coordination, and community-based behavioral health services
