Intern - Bridge & Structural - MI/OH/GA

Spicer Group•Bingham Farms, MI

About The Position

Spicer Group is hiring an intern in its Transportation Service Line, supporting the Bridge and Structures Design practice area. The Intern I, II, III, or IV will work with experienced engineers and project teams on basic tasks that support the planning, design, and construction of structural infrastructure, appropriate to the intern’s experience level. The role combines office assignments with supervised field activities and offers hands-on exposure to structural projects. Intern responsibilities and skills develop over the course of the program. First-year interns learn basic structural calculations, typical analysis loads, structural plans and specifications, and AutoCAD, while assisting with field data collection, site inspections, observations, project documentation, and reporting. Second-year interns build skills in structural analysis and design across steel, concrete, masonry, and wood; load-path analysis; bridge design and load-rating calculations; Civil 3D and advanced AutoCAD; engineering calculations; drawings; and construction documents. Third- and fourth-year interns may work on analysis and design of new and rehabilitated highway structures, bridge load ratings using AASHTO BrR, advanced RISA and 3D modeling, project reports, studies, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, building-component calculations, and bridge inspection and scoping reports. The position requires a candidate pursuing or holding a high school diploma or equivalent and pursuing a related degree, preferably with an emphasis on structural bridge and structures design. Candidates should have up to three previous internships or equivalent academic progress toward a related bachelor's degree; prior professional structural experience is not required. Interns will work under direct supervision, follow safety requirements, and participate in office and supervised field activities.
