The duties and responsibilities contained in the job description are intended to be examples of the accountabilities for which the person in the position will demonstrate competency through performance. Position Summary: Educational purpose is helping the intern to understand the basic principle of scientific research, as well as the responsibility to conduct scientific research as the first step into science. With observation and training, the intern also is expected start to develop their own critical thinking, trouble shooting and self learning abilities. Internship Learning Objectives and Outcomes: 1. Can answer at least one specific scientific question by designing and conducting experiment under supervision. 2. Can understand the basic working principle of used methodology. 3. Able to explain their data and understand the limitation of their data. 4. To some extent, understand the background and significance of a formal research project. Intern will mostly learn from shadowing and reading required materials. The mentor will provide help in explanation. Attendance will be required from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in week days. At each month and the end of internship, the intern need to give a presentation of their outcome, including the clarify of background, data explanation and significance. Feedback will be provided at the lab meeting. A rubric will be provided at intern lab meeting presentation for every lab member. Evaluation includes: Background of research project, Significance of research project, Citation of other's work, Clarity if experimental approaches, Data quantity and quality, Data formatting, Logical organization and conclusion. Expected Outcomes: 1. Able to do scientific searching and reading independently. 2. Understand the principle of Western blot and immunostaining and able to follow the protocol. 3. Able to give presentation at lab meeting. 4. Able to ask questions at lab meeting.
