Lee Health’s Nurse Residency Program supports newly licensed nurses as they transition to safe, competent, and confident independent practice. Nurse Residents receive support and training from Resident Development Specialists, Clinical Coaches, Nurse Educators, and staff. They attend professional development classes covering evidence-based content to build critical thinking, clinical and interpersonal communication skills, and confidence in practice. The role is responsible for delivering and documenting patient care through assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Nursing practice spans clinician, teacher, researcher, leadership, and professional development responsibilities. The nurse directs and coordinates care according to established clinical nursing practice standards and the Florida Nurse Practice Act, collaborates with other disciplines to support effective care and desired outcomes, and supports the organization’s vision and mission. The nurse incorporates patients’ ages and cultural diversity into care, contributes to quality through customer service and performance improvement, and works under a preceptor’s guidance during the Internship Program to develop skills and critical thinking. Applications are reviewed by the recruitment team, with interviews scheduled according to graduation dates. Qualified candidates interview with a Nurse Resident Development Specialist; selected candidates then interview with a Nursing Director. Interviews are held monthly. Candidates may interview and receive a contingent offer before passing the NCLEX, but must have an active Florida license before their start date. Candidates who are not licensed by the deadline may be considered for the next residency cohort.
