About The Position

The County of Volusia is seeking an Intern for the Resource Stewardship Division. This is a temporary (20 hours per week) position located in DeLand, Florida. The intern will assist with grant program administration, including data entry and document management using Microsoft Office Suite and other programs. Duties will include supporting grant administration and manager with everyday tasks, field visits to active or closed ECHO project sites, conducting policy and program research; and completing various administrative tasks as assigned by the program supervisor. The intern will gain hands-on experience in local government grant program administration, including grant cycle management, compliance, and public meeting procedures under Florida's Sunshine Law. The intern will develop skills in public policy research and analysis, governmental record-keeping, and interagency communication. This is an unpaid internship for college credit only, and if selected, the interns must provide information from their school. This is NOT a virtual internship, this IS a in-person internship. Temporary positions do not receive County benefits.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a: Full-Time Undergraduate Student (Fall/Spring - 12 Credit Hours; Summer - 6 Credit Hours), or Full-Time Graduate Student (Fall/Spring - 9 Credit Hours; Summer - 6 Credit Hours)
  • Be currently seeking a degree in an area of study related to the internship position
  • Be able to work eight (8) to ten (10) hours per week.
  • Undergraduates must maintain a 2.8 GPA or higher on a 4.0 grade scale; graduate students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
  • Interns must be receiving school credit or fulfilling an internship requirement for his/her degree program.
  • College credit must be arranged by the student & approved by the school before the internship starts.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of basic customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Nice To Haves

  • The preferred candidate having met the minimum requirements, will be enrolled in one of the following degree programs: Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, or related field.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate exercises.
  • Ability to structure, research and develop emergency plans.
  • Ability to educate the public about disaster preparedness.
  • Ability to work with community stakeholders in emergency management and disaster preparedness.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, volunteers, and the Public.
