About The Position

This internship in the Recorder's Office provides an opportunity to gain general knowledge of all phases of the office's operations and to explain these operations to the public. The intern will answer phone calls, assist customers with questions, and perform general clerical duties such as filing and records management. A key aspect of the role is to learn office procedures and contribute to an office update initiative, which may include helping to prepare communications like newsletters and promotional materials. Interns may also attend public appearances, shadow employees, and assist with various tasks including document recording, imaging, indexing, verifying public records, and information technology duties. Additionally, the intern will instruct and assist customers in using the office's services, retrieve documents upon request, and certify copies of recorded documents. Other duties as assigned will also be part of the role.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of all phases of the Recorder’s Office.
  • Ability to explain office operations to the public.
  • Proficiency in computer operations (e.g., Microsoft Office, Group Wise, and other related software).
  • Typing and word processing speed of 60 words per minute.
  • Oral communications skills.
  • Organization skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to perform computer operations (e.g., Microsoft Office, Group Wise, Word Perfect, and other related software).
  • Ability to type/word process at 60 words per minute.
  • Ability to calculate fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a group.
  • Writing skills.
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Political Science, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Interest in government, public service, community engagement, or policy development.

Responsibilities
