About The Position

This internship focuses on process engineering within an ethanol production environment. The intern will gain hands-on experience in interpreting Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), understanding the various stages of ethanol production (cook, fermentation, distillation), and learning about the major equipment involved. The role also includes learning about equipment sizing using industry standards and software, and exposure to relevant engineering software.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a college program related to Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering field.
  • Excellent computer skills utilizing MS Office products.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with senior management.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with internal and external customers, use tact and diplomacy, and possess a customer service focus.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to AutoCAD and Navisworks (navigation only).

Responsibilities

  • Learn to read P&IDs, including symbols, terminology, numbering, and pipeline/instrument designation.
  • Understand the phases of the ethanol production process (cook, fermentation, distillation) by completing mass and energy balances.
  • Become acquainted with chemicals used in the ethanol process.
  • Learn the purpose and function of major equipment.
  • Acquire basic knowledge of the control scheme.
  • Learn about different types of equipment (e.g., heat exchangers, pumps) and materials used in manufacturing equipment and piping.
  • Learn to size pumps and pipes using the Cameron Hydraulic Data book and Pipe Flow Expert software.
