About The Position

This is a Power Line Department Intern level position. Placement within the line department is to gain experience and knowledge of the electrical power line industry. In no case will a Power line Intern be allowed to work alone without close and direct supervision of a skilled journeyman. Employees at this level will be assisting in how to safely perform the following job duties; including but not limited to: Change out and repair old or damaged poles, cross arms, insulators, or lightening arrestors. String new or replace conductors. Install jumpers, ground wires, and grounding chains. Observe operation of heavy equipment such as Bucket Trucks, Line Trucks, Crane Trucks, Back-hoe, Dump Trucks, Skid-Loader or other equipment used in the construction, repair, or maintenance of high-voltage Distribution and Transmission lines. Interns are not allowed to operate any equipment unless they have been trained on the operation of the equipment and under direct and immediate supervision of a journeyman level employee familiar with the equipment. Climb wood and steel structures in all types of inclement weather and only under the close observation and supervision of a skilled journeyman. May be subject to unscheduled call-outs for restoration of electrical service to the GRDA system in extreme circumstances and under supervision. Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings and training classes. Learn the Safety rules and procedures associated with high-voltage electrical facilities. Requirements

• Knowledge of the basic principles of electricity.
• Familiar with the advanced principles of the assigned craft i.e.; transmission and distribution lines, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintaining power lines and power station equipment.
• Organizational and Communicative skills.
• Computer skills – able to learn and use Microsoft programs, including “WORD” and “EXCEL”.
• Enrollment of an accredited powerline program.
• Valid CDL Operators License, or at a minimum a valid driver’s license issued by the state the student is a primary residence.
