The Intern – Planning and Development assists the Planning and Development Department with various administrative, planning, zoning, permitting, and plan review tasks. This role offers experience in municipal government processes, supporting professional development or fulfilling the internship requirements of their academic program. The Planning and Development intern (hybrid) will be a multi-disciplined member of the team, supporting a variety of zoning, GIS, community planning, and development code initiatives that contribute to data-driven decision-making, long-range planning efforts, and technical policy review. The intern will assist in the tracking of milestones and workflow coordination for development code amendments and work closely with the City Arborist to provide technical research on policies such as Article X, the city’s Landscape and Tree Conservation Regulations and the Urban Forest Master Plan. The intern will also gain hands-on experience working with planners, GIS analysts, and other City departments in key aspects of municipal planning such as project development, public outreach, stakeholder engagement, and community meetings, understanding how the merging of quantitative technical analysis and qualitative community input shapes planning recommendations and how the city of Dallas develops.
