About The Position

The Chicago Park District’s Summer Legal Intern Program provides opportunities for law students to work on substantive legal assignments under the supervision of a Park District attorney. Performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY: Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda; draft motions; review discovery; prepare for and attend depositions and court hearings; draft and review contracts and other legal documents in a variety of practice areas, including but not limited to personal injury, labor and employment, procurement, real estate and municipal financing; and participate in other litigation or transactional matters as assigned. Work in a professional environment, building workplace skills and gaining valuable experience in preparation for future employment. A law student with a license under Supreme Court Rule 711 may appear before the court under the supervision of a Park District attorney.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a law school or legal graduate program
  • Citizen or national of the United States, or otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Demonstrated proficiency in legal research, analysis and writing
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and meet work deadlines
  • Willingness to complete other administerial and clerical work as needed
  • Proof of current enrollment and resume
  • Proof of Chicago residency at the start of program

Nice To Haves

  • Student in good academic standing who has completed their second year of law school
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Students with an interest in Labor and Employment Law are especially encouraged to apply
