The Laboratory Technician Intern supports porcelain enamel laboratory operations through sample preparation, testing, documentation, and product development activities. This role assists with coating formulation support, physical and performance testing, and laboratory processes while contributing to technical service and product development initiatives. This role offers several learning opportunities including hands-on experience with porcelain enamel coatings, glass frits, laboratory equipment, and manufacturing quality practices. Also opportunities to develop technical, analytical, and safety skills while working alongside experienced laboratory and coatings professionals.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling procedures
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, work instructions, and testing protocols
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, or similar applications

Nice To Haves

  • Prior laboratory coursework or experience in coatings, chemicals, glass science, or manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with glass science, porcelain enamel products, or coatings formulation concepts
  • Exposure to quality systems or regulated manufacturing environments
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong hands-on problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare porcelain enamel samples and coatings for laboratory testing and evaluation
  • Perform physical and performance testing to assess product characteristics such as adhesion, color, and chemical durability
  • Document testing procedures, record results, and maintain laboratory records accurately
  • Prepare, package, and ship samples while maintaining appropriate documentation and tracking records
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, housekeeping standards, and compliance with safety and quality requirements
