About The Position

The Golf Course maintenance summer intern is responsible for chemical applications, irrigation troubleshooting, and exposure to small crew leadership opportunities. This role provides exposure to visiting other golf courses to view their irrigation installations and new course construction. The intern will also network with other on-course assistants, course superintendents, and the Director of Agronomy.

Requirements

Must be currently enrolled and working towards a Turfgrass Management/Landscaping Degree
Service-oriented mindset and capable of making every guest feel valued.
Strong communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Competent in working with multiple systems, including Microsoft Office and power point.
Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
A multi-tasker, prioritizing time effectively.
Able to work a varying shift including weekends and holidays.
Basic Computer Skills
Ability to stand for extended periods of time, work safely, communicate effectively, understand, and carry out written and oral directions, and establish good working relationships with co-workers.
Lift, reach, bend, twist, push, pull, squat, grasp and use arm-hand coordination on a consistent basis.
Have the ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

Performs chemical applications - boom spraying greens, tees, and fairways.
Sprays hawking on Paynes Valley 19th Green.
Performs maintenance on Rainbird/Toro sprinkler head and troubleshoots as needed.
Sands topdressing of greens.
Hand waters bent grass greens in the transition zone using a pogo sensor.
Leads small project crew when opportunities arise.
Receives exposure to visit Buffalo Ridge golf course to view their brand-new irrigation installation as well as to Cliffhangers, a new 18-hole par 3 course currently under construction.
Networks with the other on course assistants, course superintendents as well as the Director of Agronomy.
ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
