About The Position

This internship position in Food Services is responsible for ensuring food, supplies, and equipment are available and properly stored. The intern will assist in food preparation, kitchen clean-up, and maintaining sanitary food service areas. This role may involve supervising Job Corps’ Work-Based Learning students. Key duties include transferring food and supplies, preparing fruits and vegetables, setting up and taking down tables and chairs, washing dishes and utensils, cleaning kitchen and cafeteria areas, cleaning kitchen equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning trash containers, and degreasing vent screens and filters. The position also emphasizes providing superior customer service, producing quality work, maintaining attendance and productivity standards, planning and organizing assignments, applying job knowledge, and proactively maintaining skills. The intern will mentor students on Career Success Standards, provide supervision, positively influence student behavior, and ensure student needs are met. Communication and teamwork are essential, as is the ability to identify and solve problems. The intern will also work with other departments to ensure effective student services and may be assigned duties in other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to obtain local Food Handling/Health Certification required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and / or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or certification from an accredited or relevant certified training program or school preferred.
  • Experience in a food services operation desired.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that food, supplies and equipment are available as needed and stored properly when not in use.
  • Assists in the preparation of food for meals.
  • Provides kitchen clean-up to facilitate sanitizing of all food service areas.
  • May supervise Job Corps’ Work-Based Learning students assigned to the department.
  • Transfers food, supplies and equipment between storage areas and kitchen and/or cafeteria.
  • Washes, peels and cores fruit and vegetables as necessary.
  • Sets up and takes down tables and chairs.
  • Scrapes, washes and stores dishes, pots, pans and utensils.
  • Clears, cleans, and sanitizes kitchen, cafeteria area and food storage areas.
  • Cleans refrigerators, stoves, ovens and other kitchen equipment.
  • Sweeps, mops, waxes and strips wax from floors.
  • Cleans and stores trash containers in appropriate areas.
  • Degreases and sanitizes vent screens and filters.
  • Provides superior customer service at all times.
  • Produces quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards.
  • Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understands and applies job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities.
  • Proactively maintains the skills required to perform job duties.
  • Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Provides high-quality supervision and management for the student population.
  • Takes swift and appropriate action and positively influences student behavior.
  • Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provides quality services for students and ensures that quality is maintained and student needs are met.

  • Follows up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is required and that problems are in fact corrected.
  • Works in partnership with staff from all Departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accepts direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager to include assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
