About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Intern for their Corporate Risk Engineering group. This role provides loss control support and acts as an engineering interface to insurers, with a focus on renewable energy projects like offshore wind and battery energy storage. The intern will participate in various construction projects, including peaking combustion turbines, offshore wind, hydrogen blending, peak shaving LNG terminals, and battery energy storage facilities. Responsibilities include contributing to fire protection system specifications, design and bid evaluations, construction walkdowns, and final acceptance testing. The intern will work alongside experienced Fire Protection Engineers, applying fire protection engineering principles and standards to develop risk reduction solutions and gain practical experience in industrial risk reduction strategies. The role involves limited exercise of judgment and may require interfacing with other departments, contractors, and vendors.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license required
  • Solid engineering skills commensurate with grade level

  • Must be a full-time student currently working towards completing an ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Must have an anticipated graduation date between Fall 2027 and Fall 2029
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater

Responsibilities

  • Participate in construction projects such as peaking combustion turbines, offshore wind, hydrogen blending, peak shaving LNG terminals, and battery energy storage facilities.
  • Participate in the development of fire protection system specifications.
  • Assist in design and bid evaluations.
  • Participate in construction walkdowns.
  • Participate in and review system final acceptance tests.
  • Apply fire protection engineering principles and standards to develop practical risk reduction solutions.
  • Provide real-life examples to assist in the understanding of engineering principles and industrial risk reduction strategies.
  • Apply academics to real-life opportunities.
  • Interface with other departments, contractors, and vendors to gather information and coordinate projects.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
