About The Position

Coeur Alaska is seeking a motivated student for a summer internship with the Environmental Department at the Kensington Mine in 2027, from May through August. The mine is an underground gold mine in the Berners Bay Mining District, approximately 45 miles from Juneau, Alaska. The internship typically spans about 12 weeks and provides mentored, real-world on-the-job experience at an operating mine site, with ownership of projects that can have a tangible impact on the mine. Interns collaborate on a group presentation proposing an area of company improvement. The program culminates in an expense-paid trip to Chicago to present the project, meet and learn from company leaders, and network with early-career participants. Food and housing are provided at the remote mine camp. Rooms are dormitory-style, with two twin beds, a TV, and storage. Transportation from Juneau to the mine includes a bus, boat, and additional bus ride. The role involves environmental field sampling and monitoring, environmental data handling, and documentation. Work takes place in a mining environment and may involve outdoor conditions such as rain, wind, and cold temperatures, as well as surface and underground areas. The position pays $29.00 per hour. Coeur describes its purpose as “We Pursue a Higher Standard,” emphasizing protecting people, places, and the planet; developing quality resources, growth, and plans; and delivering impactful results through teamwork.
