Intern - Engineered Systems Specialist

AIR Control Concepts•Minneapolis, MN
•$20 - $24•Onsite

About The Position

Midwest Mechanical Solutions, an HVAC representative firm and member of the AIR Control Concepts family, is hiring an Engineered Systems Specialist Intern in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The internship provides hands-on experience supporting sales engineers who design and sell commercial and industrial HVAC equipment and systems to consulting engineers, contractors, and building owners. Interns work alongside sales engineers and support staff, gaining an introduction to engineered sales, the HVAC industry, and its relationship to the broader construction industry. The intern will work with Engineered Systems Specialists, Air Distribution Specialists, or Project Managers, and may focus on one role or a combination. Under experienced staff, interns assist with equipment takeoffs, selection, pricing, submittal preparation, research into technical customer questions, and learning about products from the manufacturers represented by MMS. The role may also include sales support meetings and opportunities to visit pre-construction and active job sites, observe installed equipment, and engage with customers. Interns assist experienced staff rather than independently performing the full responsibilities of those roles. This is an on-site, non-exempt hourly internship for the summer 2026 session. Participants must be available full time, 40 hours per week, for the full session. The stated pay range is $20–$24 per hour, depending on qualifications. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; the company does not provide employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Be working toward a two-year or four-year college degree in a STEM or HVAC program.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and not require employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Be able to participate full time, 40 hours per week, for the full internship session.
  • Have previous experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Have strong attention to detail, critical-thinking skills, and project management skills.
  • Communicate effectively and use logical judgment, particularly when handling adjustments and deadlines.
  • Be able to take instruction and direction and proactively ask questions when needed.
  • Have strong analytical and statistical skills and the ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Be a junior or senior enrolled in an engineering program.
  • Have prior experience working on projects in a team environment.
  • Have relevant academic project or internship experience, particularly in HVAC.

Responsibilities

  • Work with technical experts to learn HVAC products, applications, systems, and the skills needed in technical sales.
  • Under an experienced engineer's direction, assist with taking off, selecting, and pricing equipment to meet engineers' intent as shown in plans and specifications or discussed directly with engineers.
  • Assist with preparing submittal documentation for engineering approval.
  • Research and help provide solutions to customers' technical questions.
  • Engage with contacts at manufacturers represented by MMS to learn about their products, applications, and positioning.
  • Participate in sales support meetings and contribute ideas for improving team job functions.
  • Assist Engineered Systems Specialists, Air Distribution Specialists, or Project Managers, potentially in one role or a combination of roles.
  • May visit pre-construction and in-construction job sites, observe MMS-provided equipment in operation, and participate in direct customer engagements.
