Intern Engineer - AI4RnD Engineer

Huawei Technologies Canada Co., Ltd.Waterloo, ON
CA$58,000 - CA$104,000

About The Position

Huawei Canada has an immediate 4-8 month internship opening for an Engineer. The Technology Planning and Cooperation Department promotes strategic innovation across all of Huawei Canada. Working with fellow experts, the focus is researching new and upcoming areas of technology as well as strategic planning to help achieve long term vision of Huawei. This department offers a unique opportunity to leverage both technical and business skills. Unpack ambiguous, high-level objectives into concrete system specifications, execution graphs, and testable criteria. Orchestrate multi-agent workflows—seamlessly integrating code agents, web-browsing agents, local LLMs, and human-in-the-loop reviewers. Leverage AI coding tools as primary autonomous contributors, pushing beyond passive auto-complete to power end-to-end development. Dynamically dispatch computing and research tasks across cloud API models, local execution runtimes, and specialized AI sub-agents. Ensure every AI-generated artifact is supported by rigorous logs, automated test coverage, citation lineage, and reproducible runs. Build system pipelines capable of literature scanning, hypothesis extraction, benchmark replication, and automated report synthesis. Maintain structured long-term memory systems, context graphs, and project-level execution logs to accumulate reusable engineering knowledge.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript, with solid computational fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging advanced AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Antigravity, Codex, or equivalent agentic environments).
  • Proven ability to utilize AI agents for non-trivial engineering tasks—such as automated debugging, system refactoring, unit test creation, architecture validation, and doc generation.
  • Comfortable with standard Git workflows (branching strategies, PR reviews, issue tracking, and version control hygiene).
  • Hands-on experience writing test suites, analyzing system logs, diagnosing unexpected behavior, and validating complex outputs.
  • Strong aptitude for breaking down vague, fast-moving technical problems into actionable, structured components.
  • Excellent written skills to clearly document system designs, agent workflows, decision rationale, and verification outcomes.
