About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Water Engineer Co-Op or Intern to join their Water Business Line in Middletown, CT for Fall 2026. This role focuses on protecting natural environments and water resources while powering the world for future generations. The intern will gain hands-on experience in water engineering projects, including evaluation, planning, design, and management of water/wastewater/stormwater treatment and conveyance systems, as well as sustainability and resilience projects. Fieldwork, including site visits, sampling, and analysis, will be a key component. The role also involves supporting report preparation, client meetings, ensuring project compliance, and collaborating with teams across the U.S. and internationally. Interns will learn and utilize digital tools such as SharePoint, BIM, Power BI, and Augmented Reality.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BS in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, or another closely related academic discipline.
  • At least 16-20 hours of weekly availability during the fall semester (August - December 2026).
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and work ethic.
  • The initiative and ability to take on new projects and other challenges regularly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible, with the ability to balance and address new challenges as they arise.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, and practices related to water/wastewater/stormwater.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or coursework in water/wastewater, water resources, or related sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating, planning, designing, and supporting the management of projects related to water/wastewater/stormwater treatment and conveyance, including pipelines and pumping facilities.
  • Assessing, developing, and supporting the management of sustainability and resilience projects, including vulnerability and mitigation assessments, and planning and design for utilities, municipalities, and cities.
  • Conducting fieldwork such as site visits, performing sampling, conducting water quality analyses, evaluating technologies, gathering plant operations information, troubleshooting processes, and optimizing systems.
  • Supporting the preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials.
  • Participating in client meetings.
  • Ensuring project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality, health and safety standards.
  • Facilitating coordination for timely completion and submission of projects on time and budget.
  • Working independently and as part of a team, with flexibility for collaboration.
  • Learning and using digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery, including configuration and deployment of SharePoint, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Power BI, and Augmented Reality.
