About The Position
Southern Star is seeking motivated students or recent graduates for its summer Commercial Services internship. The internship provides hands-on experience, mentorship, orientation and training, and valuable work assignments. Interns shadow and assist Commercial Services team members to learn about customer service, natural gas transportation, contract administration, nominations, and commercial operations in the pipeline industry. Interns also participate in activities and events intended to build connections within the Southern Star community and among fellow interns. This is a 12-week, competitively paid summer internship that runs from May through August. Interns work 40 hours per week and receive paid company holidays. A taxable housing stipend may be provided to obtain housing near the work location if Southern Star determines that the candidate’s permanent home and current college addresses are beyond a reasonable driving distance from the assigned work location.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the summer internship assignment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Energy Management, Marketing, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 after each completed semester or term.
- Plan to pursue a career in commercial operations, energy services, business analytics, customer service, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated leadership experience through student organizations, athletics, volunteer work, or employment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Commercial Services team with daily customer service and commercial support activities.
- Support contract administration processes.
- Analyze operational and commercial data to identify trends and support decision-making.
- Create, maintain, and update reports, dashboards, and presentations.
- Participate in process improvement projects that enhance efficiency and customer service.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Operations, Accounting, Information Technology, and Rates and Regulatory, to support commercial initiatives and business objectives.
- Attend meetings and gain exposure to commercial aspects of the natural gas pipeline industry.
- Conduct research and prepare summaries related to industry trends, market developments, and customer needs.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
