About The Position

First Merchants is seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic college students for our 12-week paid summer internship program. The Commercial Bank Intern will support the Commercial Administration team through day-to-day responsibilities, projects, and initiatives that contribute to departmental goals. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to First Merchants Bank’s Commercial Line of Business, supporting strategic initiatives in credit lending analysis, loan onboarding, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement. The interns will gain exposure to core commercial banking operations while delivering meaningful project outcomes aligned with the bank’s 2027 objectives. Students can expect to learn about training, job shadowing, interviews, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across credit, commercial lending, loan administration, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement. They will also participate in a three-week Credit Training Program covering financial statement analysis, credit analytics, regional loan committee processes, accounting knowledge, and credit spread practices. Interns will gain risk and compliance exposure through committee observations and policy reviews, and commercial loan onboarding exposure through shadowing with Commercial Client Support and Commercial Loan Operations. They will also receive an overview of Commercial business segments. All interns will participate in a coordinated community service project, have an opportunity to network with Executive and Senior Leadership at an Intern Meet & Greet event, and will present a summary of their experience at the conclusion of the internship program.

Requirements

Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
Be available to work 40 hours per week from May 17th- August 6th, 2027.
Be authorized to work in the United States.
Have demonstrated interest in the industry and/or specific area of interest.
Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.
