About The Position
Lakeview Center provides comprehensive behavioral health care to adults and children with mental illnesses, drug and alcohol dependencies, and intellectual disabilities across Northwest Florida. Services include residential treatment, outpatient counseling, psychiatry, trauma care, substance misuse treatment, and 24/7 support for people with serious mental illnesses. Level I internships are observation-based learning experiences that offer introductory exposure to behavioral health services, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional workplace practices in a healthcare environment. The internship is intended for students seeking introductory experience through observation, shadowing, and supervised participation in approved activities. Interns gain insight into behavioral healthcare operations while developing professional communication, ethical awareness, and workplace readiness skills. Educational pathways may include Bachelor of Social Work and nursing students. Opportunities depend on departmental availability and supervisory capacity; placement is not guaranteed.
Requirements
- Be a student pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work pathway or another listed educational pathway.
- Demonstrate acquired competencies for the internship program and readiness to apply and further develop those skills during the internship.
- Maintain passing grades, good attendance, and discipline records.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the internship site.
- Complete required training and comply with internship placement criteria.
- Pass a Level II background screening.
- Submit to drug testing.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to dress and behavior guidelines.
- Participate in all approved activities structured by the internship supervisor.
- Complete, sign, and submit all documentation as directed by the internship supervisor by the requested deadline.
- Communicate with the internship supervisor throughout the internship, especially when concerns or problems need to be addressed.
- Evaluate and share information about the internship experience.
- Comply with Lakeview Center, Inc. policies and procedures and training requirements.
- Meet established criteria for the internship placement, including maintaining passing grades, good attendance, and discipline records.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the internship site.
- Cooperate with the intern supervisor, engage in the program as a learning experience, observe business etiquette, and abide by safety rules.
- Demonstrate honesty, punctuality, respect, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, and willingness to learn in training classes and at the internship site.
- Remain at the assigned internship placement for the duration of the internship period unless all parties mutually agree otherwise.
- Maintain confidentiality guidelines.
