About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking interns for its Electric Distribution Design Department in Northern Virginia. This role involves designing overhead and underground electric distribution systems, allocating materials, and providing time and cost estimates for construction and maintenance. Interns will design distribution facilities based on customer load requirements, inspect job sites, prepare sketches, and estimate costs for new construction or modifications. They will also handle agreements, permits, revenue calculations, and initiate tree-trimming activities. Additionally, interns will obtain right-of-way and easement agreements, communicate electrical/construction requirements to customers, and assist in field service restoration during outages. The role is approximately 60% office-based and 40% field-based, with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a 4-year program or in a 2-year program.
  • Must have a graduation date of Spring 2028 or later.
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA or greater.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Time management and organization skills.
  • Math and technical aptitude.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers.
  • Ability to work in a team.

  • AutoCad experience preferred.
  • Preferred degrees: Eng Tech, Const Mgmt, Business, Education, Liberal Arts.
  • Interest in Building and Construction project management a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Material allocation.
  • Time and cost estimates for construction and maintenance of subdivisions.
  • Relocation of distribution facilities for customers.
  • Design distribution facilities based on customer load requirements and existing facilities.
  • Inspect work request job sites.
  • Determine metering requirements and prepare sketches of property and service agreements.
  • Prepare cost estimates based on design of new construction or modification.
  • Prepare joint use notification CATV permits, underground agreements, revenue calculations, etc.
  • Determine tree-trimming requirements and initiates activity.
  • Obtain right-of-way and easement agreements and highway/railroad permits.
  • Communicate electrical/construction requirements to customers.
  • Assist in service restoration in the field during outages.
