About The Position

This application is not for an immediate opening. By submitting an application, you are applying to take a Civil Service Examination for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening. The examination consists of an experience evaluation, which quantifies an applicant's academic training and experience pertinent to the classification. The role involves assisting and/or shadowing line crews in electrical utility work under the supervision of field operations staff. Training will be provided in safe operation of electrical utility vehicles, vehicle stocking and maintenance, utilization of materials and supplies, use of safety equipment and tools, safety procedures around electrical substations, working with electrical transformers, streetlight wattages, and voltages, and establishing a "safe work zone".

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Must have fulfilled all state and local requirements for graduation, including passage of all parts of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT), unless validly waived) or GED required.
  • Valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Must have completed all requirements of Cleveland Public Power's Internship to Apprenticeship Program, or an equivalent program as determined by the Civil Service Commission upon the recommendation of the Joint Apprentice Committee established by the City and Local 39, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO.
  • Must have a 93 percent attendance record during Cleveland Public Power's Internship to Apprenticeship program, or an equivalent internship program.
  • Must include/attach any required documents (i.e. Resume, Certifications, Driver’s License, etc....) to support you meet the Minimum Qualifications at the time of submitting your application.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and/or shadows line crews as they perform tasks associated with electrical utility work.
  • Obtains training in safe operation of electrical utility vehicles.
  • Obtains training in proper stocking and maintenance procedures for vehicles.
  • Obtains training in the utilization of applicable materials and supplies.
  • Obtains training in the proper use of safety equipment and tools.
  • Obtains training in proper safety procedures for working around electrical substations.
  • Obtains training on how to work with electrical transformers, streetlight wattages, and voltages.
  • Obtains training on how to establish a "safe work zone".
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
