Ignite your future with IMAX. About the Role: We are looking for an ambitious and entertainment-focused student to join the IMAX Internship Program this Summer. This 10-week program offers hands-on learning, skill development, and real-world experience in a collaborative and innovative environment. The Alternative Content Intern will support the Alternative Content and Documentary team within the Entertainment organization. This role provides exposure to IMAX’s work across documentary films, event-driven programming, and non-traditional content categories including music, sports, gaming, cultural events, and premium live experiences. This internship is ideal for someone passionate about entertainment, film, live events, content strategy, distribution, and audience development, and interested in learning how a global premium entertainment company evaluates and brings unique content experiences to audiences worldwide.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Film, Media, Entertainment Business, Marketing, Communications, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Strong interest in documentaries, film, live events, music, sports, gaming, or premium theatrical experiences
  • Excellent research, writing, organizational, and communication skills
  • Comfortable working with data, trackers, and presentation materials
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, curious, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong judgment and professionalism when handling confidential information
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally

  • Familiarity with entertainment industry trends, theatrical distribution, or event cinema
  • Interest in alternative content strategy and audience development
  • Experience conducting research and synthesizing findings into presentations or reports
  • Ability to analyze market trends and identify emerging opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on documentary films, filmmakers, production companies, distributors, music events, sports properties, gaming events, cultural programming, re-releases, and other alternative content opportunities
  • Track trends across entertainment, experiential content, premium theatrical releases, and event cinema
  • Support competitive benchmarking and identify examples of successful documentary and alternative content releases
  • Assist with evaluating potential content opportunities, including audience appeal, market relevance, timing, and global scalability
  • Help maintain trackers for current and prospective documentary and alternative content projects
  • Support programming strategy initiatives, title prioritization, greenlight evaluation, and post-mortem analysis
  • Create and update PowerPoint presentations, research summaries, trackers, and other working documents
  • Support ad hoc projects related to partner outreach, slate planning, title analysis, and team operations
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed
