About The Position

A position is available to support marine animal health research at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Requirements

  • A MS or BS in marine biology, veterinary science/technology, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, animal science, or related discipline is required.
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Nice To Haves

  • A MS degree in environmental science, ecology, or related field demonstrating expertise in aquatic animal health is desirable.
  • Training or experience in marine animal health, database building/management, statistical analysis, epidemiology analysis, and writing scientific publications are preferred.
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work on funded research projects to support health of marine mammals and sea turtles in the Mississippi Sound.
  • Research will involve sample collection and analysis to support health of rehabilitating sea turtles or to investigate cause of death in dolphins or sea turtles.
  • Support veterinary team with diagnostic, research, and conservation activities that support animal health and welfare.
