Intermittent Worker- MS Chemical Laboratory
About The Position
This position performs laboratory analyses utilizing standard methodologies and procedures. Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year. The Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory (MSCL) is a state-appropriated regulatory agency for the State of Mississippi as well as a fee-for-service laboratory located on the campus of Mississippi State University. MSCL is dedicated to ensuring the quality and safety of fertilizers, pesticides, animal feeds, petroleum products, and manufactured and retail food. It provides fast, defensible, and reliable analytical data to regulatory agencies, federations and councils, industries, and citizens. The MSCL adheres to the highest professional standards and provides quality analytical services in a timely manner.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of related experience -or- Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
- Proficient knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to competently and efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously to complete time sensitive work in an environment with competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to expand and broaden horizons.
- Ability to function amicably, comfortably and with initiative in a dynamic team environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs laboratory preparatory work of samples
- Maintaining lab supply inventories and purchasing records
- Washing dishes
- Labeling tubes
- Grinding samples
- Cleaning laboratory areas
- Maintaining a safe environment
- Performs related duties as assigned
