About The Position

MITRE’s Systems Engineering Division delivers multidisciplinary systems engineering solutions for MITRE and its sponsors and advances next-generation systems engineering across government, industry, and academia. MITRE seeks an Intermediate Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and systems-of-systems, and to analyze missions for federal agencies. The role applies systems and mission engineering expertise and modern methods—including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, mission engineering, machine learning, and data analytics—to assess capability needs, requirements, architectures, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches. It evaluates alternative architectures and tradespaces, identifies metrics for relevant system properties, carries out requirements and interface management, architecture and test activities, and translates analysis into actionable recommendations for U.S. Government agencies. The position requires working onsite at least four days per week.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of systems engineering and enterprise architecture experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 1 year with a master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages for quantitative analyses, such as MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, or R.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI U.S. Government-issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for security-clearance eligibility.
  • Must work onsite a minimum of four days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Systems engineering experience across concept development, requirements, architecture, design, test, evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency with modern systems and digital engineering tools and methods, such as MBSE, SysML/UML, DOORS, Cameo/MagicDraw, and Rhapsody, including model integration and plugin development.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills using programming and analysis tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, R, AFSIM, STK, or Command PE for multi-level modeling, simulation, and operational effectiveness analyses.
  • Ability to work in complex systems-of-systems environments, objectively evaluate vendor solutions, and apply technical skills across multiple domains.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trusted-advisor relationships and clearly convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systems and mission engineering expertise to sponsor needs.
  • Use modern methods and tools, such as MBSE, digital engineering, mission engineering, machine learning, and data analytics, to assess capability needs, requirements, architectures, designs, performance constraints and gaps, proposed changes, and verification and test approaches.
  • Evaluate and compare alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques; explore large tradespaces and articulate uncertainties, risks, and opportunities.
  • Identify or develop metrics to measure and analyze system properties such as robustness, resiliency, interoperability, quality, and maintainability.
  • Perform requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and change management, and test and evaluation processes.
  • Perform system design and development, systems modernization, and architecture activities using MBSE and digital engineering approaches.
  • Translate analysis results into actionable recommendations for U.S. Government agencies.
