About The Position

This position is responsible for developing and modifying procedures for the expansion and improvement of UAMS’ electronic business suite (“Muse”) to solve and track complex medical business, regulatory, and research administration issues using vendor-hosted compliance software. The analyst formulates/defines system scope and objectives. Responsibilities include project management, system design, user interfaces, budget oversight, test plan and procedure development, and implementation of best practices. The position also provides leadership and mentoring to user Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and monitors programming activities for users across campus. The analyst is expected to work almost exclusively with the Muse and coordinate changes/updates to the implemented electronic “solutions” Grants, Agreements, Conflict of Interests (COI), Animal Operations (AOPS), IACUC, Safety, and other appropriate business systems (e.g., Workday) for the Research Administration/Compliance Offices at UAMS. This position serves as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders related to compliance, data integrity, workflows, system integrations, and enhancements. The analyst is responsible for keeping implementations on schedule and ensuring all federal, state, and UAMS compliance and data integrity needs are met. This position leads system updates and ongoing maintenance to ensure compliance with federal, state, and UAMS governing bodies. Working closely with SMEs, the position helps develop and maintain policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance. Additionally, the position will serve on the research IT committee, sponsored programs administration committee, and other appropriate research/compliance committees. This position will become certified and maintain certification related to all supported platforms within one year of hire. Note: This job is a hybrid position - both on campus time (in office) and work from home.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education plus three (3) years of relevant experience in sponsored research administration, or IT-related experience in a higher education environment required.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Transdisciplinary knowledge of general systems, computer sciences, and mathematics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities for budgeting and reporting purposes.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, test, implement, and upgrade custom electronic research applications used in the processing and tracking of grants, sponsored programs, restricted awards, COI, animal research and compliance, and institutional biosafety at UAMS.
  • Determine system requirements with SMEs and users, investigate existing systems to determine data needs, and identify and relate information flow, including manual tasks and governing policies describing inputs, processes, and outputs.
  • Develop alternative methods of design, complete system designs, set up data for bulk imports, and define immediate and subsequent impacts to workflows.
  • Establish controls, such as data and processing edits, calculations, and statutory restraints on system designs, such as production volumes, computer time, and regulatory requirements.
  • Meet with users to explain systems, suggest and receive system revisions and approvals from users, and modify system designs to meet user needs.
  • Work within the Research Administration and Compliance communities for each Muse solution to upgrade and improve the user experience.
  • Responsible for creating training manuals, training compliance methods and accountability requirements, conducting system training sessions, security and governance of each platform, and ensuring data integrity and accountability.
  • Responsible for assisting UAMS IT staff in supporting each platform and solution.
  • Keep implementation on schedule and coordinate with all other committees involved with the totality of each project.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and UAMS compliance and data integrity needs are met with the creation of each platform.
  • Work with each area to ensure policies are updated or created to meet all federal, state, and UAMS regulatory requirements. The position remains the lead responsible for updating each platform and maintaining required regulatory compliance and system changes to ensure standards set by federal, state, and UAMS governing bodies are maintained.
  • Provides administration and support for the custom system as a service, electronic research business suite, specifically the Huron Research Suite, plus routine maintenance and upgrades. Duties include creating required test files, analyzing test results, and troubleshooting software operations. Additional duties include performing data checks for validity, documenting specifications, and user-end testing.
  • Perform application implementations by coordinating with various areas of the UAMS IT and the user community. Investigate and troubleshoot application issues and provide help desk support to solution users.
  • Provide campus leadership in the area of electronic research administration and compliance.
  • Develop reports, identify metrics, and provide data analytics to the UAMS research community and leadership.
  • Provide verbal and written communication of potential projects, production issues, and project financial reports to various IT committees, Research Committees, and the entire UAMS community.
  • Serve as a supporting SME to the Grants and COI user groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
