About The Position

The Intermediate Care Unit Patient Care Tech provides direct patient care under the supervision of a nurse, supporting licensed professional nurses in maintaining a safe environment and reducing risk of harm. The role gathers vital information that contributes to patient assessments and reports changes in condition to the nursing team.

The position is in the telemetry unit at Alton Memorial Hospital, a 32-bed unit with private rooms where patients receive continuous cardiac monitoring and closer observation and care. The schedule is 36 hours per week, working nights from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with holiday rotation and every other weekend required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior experience required.
• No supervisor experience required.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
• Preferred experience as a CNA, nurse assistant, emergency medical technician, or surgical technician.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under nurse supervision in a healing environment that supports patients and families.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living; perform vital signs, intake and output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing as requested.
• Collect clinical data and report changes in patient status to the nurse.
• Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional development.
