About The Position

Spartan Safety, a recognized leader in roadway safety and temporary traffic control, is seeking dependable and certified Intermediate/Advanced MOT Technicians to assist in the implementation and maintenance of temporary traffic control setups. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians through proper work zone setup and compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. The Intermediate/Advanced MOT Technician is expected to handle moderately complex traffic control configurations on a variety of roadways, interpret standard traffic control plans (TCPs), and support crew operations in the field. These roles serve as a bridge between entry-level field staff and senior-level traffic control leaders, with opportunities to grow into advanced or supervisory positions. As well as opportunity to lead or supervise a crew on larger or high-risk projects. The ideal candidates have a solid understanding of MUTCD guidelines, can interpret traffic control plans, and maintain strong commitment to safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Intermediate MOT certification (current and required)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in traffic control, construction, or roadway operations (intermediate)
  • Valid Advanced MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) certification (required; must be current)
  • 2–4 years of experience in traffic control or roadway construction environments (advanced)
  • Strong knowledge of MUTCD standards, state DOT regulations, and OSHA requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and work zone layouts
  • Comfortable working in high-traffic, outdoor environments and in all weather conditions
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and safety-first mindset
  • Solid understanding of MUTCD standards and work zone safety protocols
  • Ability to read and follow traffic control plans and adapt to site-specific changes
  • Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; able to lead a small crew when needed (advanced)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as signs, cones, drums, barricades, and arrow/message boards
  • Implement and monitor advanced-level traffic control setups on high-volume roads, freeways, and complex intersections
  • Execute traffic control plans (TCPs) on moderate to high-volume roads under the guidance of a supervisor or senior technician
  • Interpret standard/complex work zone diagrams and site conditions to ensure proper setup and compliance with MUTCD and state DOT standards
  • Conduct routine safety checks of traffic control equipment and make adjustments as needed
  • Assist in directing traffic flow safely around work zones using signs, signals, and flagging techniques
  • Supervise or train other MOT or flagging personnel on proper procedures and compliance
  • Collaborate with crew members, foremen, and site supervisors to coordinate daily setup and breakdown tasks
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including daily logs, site assessments, and vehicle/equipment checklists
  • Load, secure, and transport traffic control equipment using company vehicles
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and participation in safety briefings
  • Respond to job site changes or emergency situations quickly and efficiently under direction
  • Support the training and mentoring of junior traffic control personnel as needed
