About The Position

JCJ Architecture is seeking an Interior Designer Level I with 3 or more years of experience. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design and 3-5 years of related experience. Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required. This role involves generating architectural concepts for interiors projects, including furniture and equipment planning, special design concepts, floor plan analysis, and visual design concepts. The designer will be responsible for developing new or improved techniques and carrying out design assignments, typically working through the middle point of construction and then following up with the construction team. This position works with a senior-level designer on more complex projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, plus three to five years of related experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in interior design, design management and design services.
  • 2+ years creating interior design solutions.
  • Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills (AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Available for client issues and communication after hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required.
  • Travel to work sites and other offices may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
  • Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
  • Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person.
  • Participates in coordination meetings with the consultant and internal team.
  • Develops proficiency in written communication via email and virtual communication software.
  • Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision.
  • Maintains an on-going vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
  • Adheres to established project schedules.
  • Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping.
  • Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants.
  • Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually.
  • Further refines a portfolio in one market sector.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of time management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
  • Assist Design Staff with the upkeep of the resource library.
  • Demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
  • Understands and embraces the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
  • Implements design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning.
  • Assists with development of design solutions.
  • Selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client team.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects.
  • Demonstrates facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts.
  • Share knowledge of these applications with team members.
  • Researches manufacturers and selects appropriate colors, finishes and materials from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinates with team members, and incorporates accurate information into drawings.
  • On certain projects, delegates the task of selections to junior staff.
  • Supports business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations.
  • This may require coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams.
  • Selects and presents multiple FF&E schemes to internal and client team.
  • Understands appropriate application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products being recommended for use within projects.
  • Maintains an up to date level of awareness of fashion, industry and cultural design trends.
  • Produces building project documentation from concept through construction documents.
  • Obtains and assembles data to complete drawings.
  • Learns to create detail drawings for such items as architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile and stonework.
  • Creates Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations.
  • Develops awareness and application of industry construction best practices.
  • Remains current with JCJ Technical Bulletins.
  • Produces construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization.
  • Adheres to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization.
  • Performs site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinates with Project Team.
  • Accurately performs numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, furniture and device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes.
  • Assembles collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs.
  • On certain projects, delegates this task to junior staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning.
  • Understands how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.
  • Actively maintains resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries.
  • Demonstrates and refines knowledge of Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment and Material costs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to create FF & E specifications and FF and E location plans and budgets using JCJ established software and formats.
  • Assists in preparation and bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents under the supervision of Senior Leadership.
  • Develops and coordinates Interior Finish lists and tagging of Finish location plans and elevations.
  • Coordinates with JCJ Specifications team.
  • Demonstrates ability to make financial recommendations to clients.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party FF and E procurement companies.
  • Implements cost management strategies at the direction of Senior Leadership.
  • Actively participates in value engineering exercises, both to suggest alternatives and to incorporate accepted changes.
  • Answers RFI’s, under direction of Senior Leadership.
  • Using JCJ software, learns and assists in shop drawing, submittal review and file management for construction and ff and e procurement under direction of Senior Leadership.
  • Coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team.
  • Attend regular construction phase meetings.
  • Coordinates with JCJ internal CA team and processes.
  • Assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
