About The Position

The Interim Financial Accountant & Business Advisor contributes to the calling of Medical Teams International by providing senior level accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, reporting, and business advisory support. This role develops financial metrics, forecasts, cost models, and decision support tools; contributes to month end close, financial statement integrity, and annual budgeting; and ensures work aligns with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable accounting standards. The Interim Financial Accountant & Business Advisor collaborates across teams to provide reliable financial information and strengthen organizational decision making. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years’ progressively increasing accounting experience and responsibilities
  • Prior experience working with Human Resource/Payroll Data Software (Paycom, Unit4, etc.)
  • Prior experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, and corporate financial reporting standards
  • Knowledge of core accounting processes, including accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, month end close, and related documentation
  • Familiarity with accounting systems, ERP platforms, data integrity practices, internal controls, audit preparation, and compliance requirements
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, grants, donor restricted funding, Form 990 support, and financial policy requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets, financial modeling, data manipulation, data visualization, and analysis from multiple data sources
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Office 365
  • Experience using finance and accounting systems such as CRM, NetSuite, Great Plains, Unit4, or similar platforms
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the financial planning and analysis process for the finance department, including financial reporting, creating various financial metrics and dashboards, and scenario and predictive modeling.
  • Prepare indirect cost rate calculations and create cost models for different business units.
  • Develop metrics pertaining to departmental efficiencies, cost, labor optimization, revenue, etc.
  • Create presentations providing insightful analysis, identifying required action items, and effectively frame decisions to be made.
  • Identify and research discrepancies and variances to forecast, budget, and prior year expenses, and proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Review, analyze, and distribute financial reports to budget holders and support interpretation of financial results.
  • Prepare month end executive financial reports, analysis, presentation, and discussion materials.
  • Oversee and coordinate data collection and input feeding into the global budget process.
  • Provide guidance and maintain templates for budget holders, budget models for decision making, prior year analysis, current year projections plus providing budget system support and training
  • Reconcile budget revisions and manage budgets in the ERP system.
  • Input department budgets into the ERP system.
  • Monitor month end and year end close activities to ensure deadlines are met and financial information is complete, accurate, and properly documented.
  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and in accordance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Complete special accounting related projects and reports.
  • Support cash management processes, forecasting and funding needs, bank balances, and treasury management to ensure the proper balancing of working capital and reserves.
  • Maintain strong documentation practices to support transparency, audit readiness, and institutional knowledge.
  • Advise and support external reporting as needed.
  • Prepare schedules in support of the annual Form 990 tax return as needed.
  • Provide support to the VP of Finance/CFO, Controller, Director of Financial Control and Performance, and/or other Finance staff when necessary.
  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment free workplace policies.
  • Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations
