About The Position

The Interim Director serves as the primary architect of Lawrenceville’s innovation culture and a member of the Lawrenceville Faculty. By managing the physical fabrication spaces of the GCAD and leading the school's strategic approach to AI and emerging technologies, this individual ensures that every student has the tools, training, and access to GCAD spaces and tools to navigate a rapidly changing technological landscape. This is a one-year position. It will be a condition of your employment that you occupy School-provided housing, so that you will be available to fulfill the School’s needs with respect to faculty supervision of our students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Industrial or Fine Arts, or related field.
  • Experience working with and teaching computer-aided design (CAD).
  • Experience with 3D printing and CNC operation.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in high school teaching experience, or equivalent
  • Experience working with students on design and fabrication.
  • Proficiency with robotics, rocketry and student design challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to work with young people (teenagers) and adults.
  • This position requires living on campus and participating in the residential life of the School

Responsibilities

  • Teach 2-3 classes per term in Visual Arts (Tech Design), Math, Science, or History, integrating design-thinking, fabrication, or relevant technologies where appropriate.
  • Partner with the Dean of Academics to support discipline-specific research initiatives and encourage departmental projects involving GCAD.
  • Contribute to the residential character of the school through House Duty, chaperoning a weekend activity, academic advising, and coaching 1-2 terms (or equivalent).
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure infrastructure supports high-level technological and fabrication tools.
  • Manage fabrication spaces in coordination with the Art Department Chair; maintain and replace equipment/supplies.
  • Ensure every 2nd Former is introduced to the GCAD through project support; manage evening and weekend supervision schedules.
  • Oversee the makerspace budget and compile annual reviews of programmatic needs.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols for all fabrication equipment, including training certification requirements for students and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and maintain incident-reporting procedures.
  • Build pipelines for internships, collaborative projects, and alumni networks with industry innovators and tech leaders at other independent schools to support student design projects.
  • Work with the Dean of Students to embed innovation goals into student orientation and yearly programming.
  • Organize and lead annual design challenges and support projects in the Academic showcases.
  • Develop training sessions and tutorials that empower students to use GCAD thoughtfully and safely.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support the school’s mission and strategic priorities.
