About The Position

The Interface Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, testing, and support of system interfaces that enable data exchange across clinical and administrative applications. This role collaborates with end users, analysts, and technical partners to gather requirements, build and modify interfaces, and ensure reliable, high quality data integration. The Interface Engineer also participates in interface monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance to support a stable interface environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of relevant experience required
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in interface development, integration engineering, or related technical role
  • Strong understanding of HL7 messaging standards and enterprise interface engines (e.g., Corepoint, Open Engine)
  • Experience with SDLC principles, including change management
  • Proficiency in software testing (unit, regression)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Cerner technical certifications preferred (e.g., Fundamentals, Core Architecture, Interface Design)

Responsibilities

  • Participates in interface projects and provides technical input on interface design and development.
  • Works with clinical business analysts and system engineers to understand functional requirements and translate them into interface specifications.
  • Conducts interviews with end users and partners to gather business and technical requirements.
  • Develops interface specifications, data flow diagrams, and related documentation.
  • Performs data conversion, unit testing, regression testing, and interface validation.
  • Supports interface deployment and go live activities.
  • Executes interface updates and modifications as needed.
  • Monitors interface performance and ensures adherence to established SLAs.
  • Provides Tier 2/Tier 3 troubleshooting and issue resolution for interface-related incidents.
  • Collaborates with senior team members on interface reviews and development standards.
  • Assists in maintaining interface development frameworks and best practices.
  • Supports and mentors support specialists in interface troubleshooting.
