About The Position

Inova is seeking intensivists to join a collaborative, high-performing team of over 30 physicians and advanced practice providers. This role focuses on caring for the most acutely ill patients in a 919-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center flagship hospital at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus (IFMC). The need for intensivists has increased due to the growing acuity and volume of patients in the adult ICUs. The position is particularly interested in intensivists with expertise in cardiac critical care and neurocritical care. Providers will care for critically ill patients in the four adult ICUs at IFMC: Medical-Surgical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, and Neuroscience ICU. Additionally, they will provide critical care consultation throughout the hospital and subspecialty critical care support to the Inova system. Post-ICU care is managed by a team of hospitalists, including a subspecialty service for neurologic diseases and injuries.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Critical Care.
  • Successful completion of ACGME residency program and a subsequent fellowship with ABMS board certification in critical care.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors.
  • Ability to be enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor.
  • Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services.

  • 3+ years of experience as an attending physician at a large, tertiary care hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical care to critically ill patients who have been admitted to the hospital.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive coordinated care.
  • Manages patient care plans and make recommendations for treatment.
  • Initiates, monitors, and adjusts treatment plans.
  • Participates in a wide range of clinical research projects, studies, and multidisciplinary team activities.
  • Keeps accurate medical records and documents patient care.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Stays current with the latest medical treatments and procedures.
  • May perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Completes initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provides ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions while providing treatment.
  • Orders prescription medications and diagnostic procedures while authorizing and coordinating all specialty and ancillary services.
  • Provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support.
  • Managing patients requiring vasopressors, mechanical support, post-operative neurosurgical patients, stroke patients, and cardiogenic shock with the support of team APPs.
