About The Position

The Medical Critical Care Service (MCCS) at Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking board-certified and hospital-employed critical care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners dedicated to an academic mission. Inova Alexandria Hospital is a 318-bed community hospital with approximately 36 ICU beds. The critical care physicians, known as intensivists, conduct daily management and teaching rounds, serving as the attending of record for the majority of patients on the teaching service. They also administer the ICU house staff lecture series. The educational director for the rotation is part of this group and attends monthly Inova Alexandria Department of Medicine academic meetings to ensure an outstanding experience for house staff during the rotation.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Critical Care.
  • Successful completion of ACGME residency program and a subsequent fellowship with ABMS board certification in critical care.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors.
  • Ability to enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor.
  • Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience as an attending physician in critical care.

Responsibilities

  • Completes initial assessments and evaluations of new patients and provides ongoing monitoring of patients' medical conditions while providing treatment.
  • Orders prescription medications and diagnostic procedures while authorizing and coordinating all specialty and ancillary services.
  • Provide critical care consultation to patients throughout the hospital, and subspecialty critical care support.
  • Managing patients requiring vasopressors, mechanical support, post operative neurosurgical patients, stroke patients, and cardiogenic shock with the support of team APP’s.
