About The Position

This recruitment is for part-time Integrative Biology Research Assistant positions within the Department of Integrative Biology at Oregon State University (OSU). These positions involve performing routine to complex technical tasks in support of research or administrative work. The hours worked per week will vary depending on project needs but will not exceed 24 hours per week during academic terms. This role is eligible for students with federal work study awards, and work study students are preferred. The positions are designed to help students develop vital career-readiness skills in communication, critical thinking, professionalism, and career & self-development.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term).
  • Students with career goals related to biological sciences or a related field.
  • A strong and demonstrable work ethic.
  • Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified.
  • Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
  • OSU will conduct a review of the National Sex Offender Public website prior to hire.

Responsibilities

  • General lab cleaning and moving items as appropriate: Washing tanks, dishes, bottles, misc. items as needed.
  • Training, assisting and running experiments.
  • Animal husbandry.
  • Participating in field research as needed.
  • Computer data entry.
  • Microscope work.
