About The Position

Our Digital Engineering practice is helping organizations solve complex problems through purpose-led transformation. To achieve this mission, a diverse and talented team from around the globe are creating innovative digital experiences that help our clients succeed and thrive. Our practice combines an understanding of the public sector's diverse mission needs with private sector leading practices. The Integration Senior Engineer maps how applications, data and enterprise services connect across the portfolio, so that rationalization decisions and modernization sequencing reflect real dependencies rather than assumptions. This role identifies the interfaces, data exchanges and shared services that make applications difficult to retire or consolidate, and defines the target-state integration patterns that allow the portfolio to be simplified safely.

Requirements

  • Experience with enterprise application integration, including REST and SOAP APIs, messaging (JMS, AMQP, Kafka or cloud messaging services) and ETL/ELT.
  • Strong SQL skills across Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including database links and replication.
  • Ability to read integration code and configuration in Java and/or .NET.
  • Working knowledge of identity protocols (SAML, OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect).
  • Clear, structured written documentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret level clearance
  • 3–6 years of enterprise integration or software engineering experience, including mapping and modernizing integrations across multiple applications.
  • Must be comfortable working in-person as needed in the Washington, DC area

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in developing written and visual communication products
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with clients and identify engagement follow-on opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Identify and document application interfaces and integrations, including REST and SOAP APIs, file transfers, message queues, ETL jobs, database links, shared database access and scheduled batch exchanges.
  • Map point-to-point integrations, shared middleware and enterprise integration patterns, and distinguish authoritative data sources from replicas and derived copies.
  • Assess use of enterprise shared services, including API management (for example, Gravitee), data integration and ETL (for example, Qlik/Talend), identity and access management (for example, Okta and CyberArk, including federated and PIV-based authentication), enterprise search, document management, and low-code and robotic process automation platforms.
  • Validate integration dependencies discovered by automated analysis and populate the dependency graph used for impact analysis and modernization wave sequencing.
  • Assess integration risk and complexity for retire and consolidate decisions, including downstream consumers, data contracts, coexistence and cutover considerations.
  • Define target-state integration patterns (API-first, event-driven and consolidated data services) and reusable integration approaches for future modernization waves.
  • Work with application owners, data owners and third-party system owners to confirm interface contracts and data exchange expectations.
  • Produce interface inventories, data-flow diagrams and integration documentation that are traceable to source evidence.

Benefits

  • medical and dental coverage
  • pension and 401(k) plans
  • a wide range of paid time off options
  • flexible vacation policy
  • designated EY Paid Holidays
