About The Position

This position is responsible for implementing and managing the District’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to control pests and weeds in a safe, effective, and environmentally responsible manner. The IPM Technician II will conduct inspections, identify pests and diseases, develop treatment plans, apply pesticides and herbicides when necessary, and maintain detailed records of all activities. This role requires adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding pesticide use and safety. The position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and requires the ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in integrated pest management, horticulture, or a related field.
  • Valid Nevada Pesticide Applicator License (Category 3 - Ornamental & Turf, Category 5 - Aquatic, Category 6 - Rights-of-Way, or equivalent).
  • Valid Nevada Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
  • Knowledge of pest identification, life cycles, and control methods.
  • Understanding of IPM principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of pesticide and herbicide application techniques and safety procedures.
  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret pesticide labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with computerized pest management tracking systems.
  • Additional pesticide applicator licenses or certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage the District’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
  • Conduct regular inspections of District facilities and grounds to identify pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Develop and execute pest and weed control strategies, prioritizing non-chemical methods.
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and other treatment materials safely and effectively when necessary, following all label instructions and regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of all pest management activities, including inspections, treatments, materials used, and outcomes.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as sprayers, mowers, and other grounds maintenance tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to pesticide use, storage, and disposal.
  • Provide training and guidance to grounds staff on IPM principles and practices.
  • Respond to pest-related concerns and complaints from staff and the public.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of IPM strategies and make adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain an inventory of pest control materials and equipment.
  • Prepare reports on IPM program activities and outcomes for management.
