About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking an Intake Technician to perform assigned kennel duties and oversee intake procedures. This role involves coordinating with the Animal Technician, managing microchip company contact, visually inspecting animals for health issues, documenting findings, and administering medications and medicated baths. The Intake Technician is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the intake room, managing inventory of medical supplies, and assisting with minor medical procedures under the guidance of the vet tech. Additionally, the position supports potential adopters by taking them through kennels to view pets, answers phones, assists at the front desk, and helps with adoption, rescue, and foster paperwork. Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Valid Drivers License with current automobile insurance is required.
  • Required to work rotating weekends.
  • Strong organizational skills; verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.

Nice To Haves

  • Kennel experience preferred.
  • Basic Animal Control Certification may be required after employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all assigned kennel duties for assigned building.
  • Oversees intake procedures and completes checklist in coordination with the Animal Technician.
  • Responsible for contact chip company if microchip is found, follows-up and inputs in Chameleon.
  • Visually inspects animals for injuries, tattoos, skin conditions, etc and notes in Chameleon.
  • Documents sick or injured animals and notifies leadership.
  • Performs medicated baths.
  • Administers medications.
  • Keeps intake room clean and sanitary.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of intake medical supplies.
  • Works with vet tech on minor medical procedures.
  • Assists potential adopters and takes them through the kennel to view pets.
  • Answers the phone and assists with the front desk.
  • Assists with adoption, rescue and foster paperwork.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
