About The Position

Austin Oaks Hospital is an 80-bed facility offering a broad spectrum of psychiatric services for adults through both inpatient and outpatient programs. Located on a beautiful oak-lined campus in South Austin, it provides a home-like environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self-awareness, social skills, and personal growth. The hospital is part of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), one of the nation’s largest providers of hospital and healthcare services. This position is for a Registered Nurse on the night shift (7p-7a) in Admissions, responsible for coordinating referrals and admissions, assessing patients' psychiatric and medical status, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
  • CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications (can be obtained during orientation).
  • Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as a nationwide background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • State and Federal Office of the Inspector General check.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to incoming calls to the hospital to accommodate coordination for referrals/admissions.
  • Provide assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status.
  • Ensure all inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented accurately in the computer system.
  • Ensure notes regarding referrals and upcoming admissions are documented on proper forms.
  • Ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed.
  • Ensure nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient's condition/history.
  • Ensure referral material is copied/distributed and prepared in unit charts as required.
  • Assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to mental health technicians.
  • Contribute to treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by Physician.
