About The Position

Intake & Hotline Counselors act as a liaison conducting intake to our Safe Havens, providing callers, potential clients and clients direct service links to external resources through the DV Hotline necessary in establishing safety when leaving a domestic violence situation. The mission of WAA is to provide quality, compassionate and non-judgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in persons experiencing intimate partner violence through advocacy and community education. With over 170 staff, WAA serves two 100+ bed safe havens and 15 transitional housing apartments, legal services, hotline counseling, aftercare community-based services, prevention & education, and advocacy.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • At least one (1) year experience in an advocacy, hotline, crisis or related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of crisis intervention is required.
  • The ability to read, write and comprehend English is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member is required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and written, is required.
  • Will be required to attend our Virtual Domestic Violence Advocate Paid Training, post hire
  • Must provide Satisfactory Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI clearances. (Any expenses paid by employer)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or intimate partner violence is preferred.
  • Bilingualism or conversational in a language in addition to English is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answering the Hotline - Conducting crisis intervention and safety planning with callers
  • Ensure a Trauma-Informed client intake and orientation with DV counseling and support
  • Assist OSH (Office of Supportive Housing) Intake staff by assessing the needs of the person(s) presenting for service and arrange direct access to the Safe Haven or other safe option
  • Providing information related to maintaining safety, discussing available options, counseling services or referrals and connecting clients to said services (in the event space is not available)
  • Collect and report data
  • Maintain the daily census for our Safe Havens - Enter hotline & intake information into database for up to date records
