About The Position

The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a first-impressions and customer service focused environment for new clients entering treatment. Duties include greeting new arrivals, completion of vitals and initial belongings checks for contraband, admission screening documentation, completion of consents and appropriate releases of information, observation rounding, and milieu management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR certification and de-escalation training required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or other related field of study preferred.
  • One or more years' experience in healthcare admissions preferred.
  • Preferably in the mental health or substance abuse field.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, interviewing and assessment skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with other departments and maintains a list of expected new admissions and greets all new clients upon arrival.
  • Notifies appropriate facility departments of the arrival of a new client.
  • Conducts vital signs and reports any abnormalities to a nursing representative.
  • Collects UDS and/or BAC.
  • Interviews clients, family members and/or collateral sources to assure intake criteria are met.
  • Reviews prospective admissions against approved admission criteria, policies, and procedures.
  • Completes documentation supporting admission criteria to recommended level of care (i.e.- ASAM dimensions).
  • Completes suicide screening and reports any heightened risk to a nursing representative.
  • Conducts belongings, client inventory, contraband searches, as assigned.
  • Obtains consents and releases of information, as relevant to the client, in accordance with patient rights and privacy expectations.
  • Reviews financial agreements, client rights and responsibilities with incoming client.
  • Enters client information into relevant systems including HCS, Trac9, and ObservSmart.
  • Responds and reacts to the needs of referred clients.
  • Provides introduction, welcome, and warm handoff to nursing department for all clients admitted.
  • Works closely with other departments as well as external parties to ensure the timely admission of clients.
  • Completes all required documentation timely and thoroughly.
  • Completes observation rounds on assignment clients per provider order
  • Supports milieu management through client engagement, conflict resolution, and a focus on observing changes in client condition and behavior.
