About The Position

Brave Space Alliance (BSA) is a Black- and Trans-founded LGBTQ+ focused community center on Chicago's South Side that welcomes and serves all who come through our doors with affirming, culturally competent resources, programming, and services. We strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build a world of liberty and justice for all. Brave Space Alliance is searching for a full-time Intake Coordinator. The Intake Coordinator serves as the initial representative and point of contact for BSA community members seeking services. The Intake Coordinator will ensure that clients understand all the available services. The qualified candidate uses active listening, empathy, and trauma-informed strategies to support community members. The Intake Coordinator will diligently uphold dignity and confidentiality in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Community Development, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in community outreach, engagement, or program coordination.
  • Familiarity and comfort working with trans and nonbinary populations.
  • Deep understanding of Black TLGBQ+ communities on Chicago’s South Side.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit or community-based organizations.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed strategies.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Greet each community member who walks through BSA’s doors
  • Check in each community member, using BSA’s technology and intake process, accurately capturing demographic information while respecting confidentiality and maintaining privacy
  • Route community members to the appropriate BSA team member to receive services
  • Collaborate with Programs team on outreach, events, and other Programs initiatives
  • Work with BSA’s Operations team to manage bus card inventory, distribution, and tracking
  • Provides responsive, cross-functional support to program staff to ensure continuity of services and team effectiveness.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings with Behavioral Health Manager, bi-weekly Programs Team meetings, and monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
