About The Position

Austin Industrial is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Technician to join their team in Decatur, IL. This is a full-time maintenance position requiring 40 hours per week with potential for overtime. The role involves installing, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, overhauling, and repairing electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure optimal performance. The technician will utilize hand tools, testing equipment, and precision measuring instruments. A key aspect of the role is the ability to read and interpret manuals, wiring schematics, and instrumentation specifications. The position also requires troubleshooting electric motors, installing wiring, and possessing knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
  • Ability to install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair electrical, controlling, indicating and measuring instrument devices.
  • Ability to use hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments and equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics and testing specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electric motors and install wiring to circuits.
  • Some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLC's.
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices.
  • Read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics, and testing specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electric motors and install wiring to circuits.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
  • Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, including ratio and proportions, numbers with powers of 10, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, inches of water to PSI, and inches of mercury to PSI.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings and prepare job reports.
  • Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures and interpret and apply other procedures.
  • Understand the principles of pH and redox and the equipment needed to measure and control them.
  • Work with and understand Ohm’s Law and Kirchhoff’s Law, and with diodes, capacitors, and other electrical components.
  • Understand steam and its reactions in different situations (e.g., saturation properties).
  • Work with the principles of chemistry and physics required in instrumentation such as specific gravity, density of liquids and solids, mechanical advantages, proportions of liquids, melting points, freezing points, boiling points of liquids, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
  • Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and how they function, including the role of each component.
  • Understand common types of chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors.
  • Apply procedures for measuring pressure, level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
