About The Position

The Instrumentation Coordinator I is responsible for intermediate preparation, assembly, sterilization, and quality verification of surgical instrumentation across Central Sterile Processing sites. This position requires completion of an accredited sterile processing training program prior to hire. The Instrumentation Coordinator I serves as a technical resource within the department and supports instrumentation accuracy, regulatory compliance, and surgical readiness. This role demonstrates advanced knowledge of instrumentation and sterilization standards but does not have full operational coordination or shift lead responsibilities. The Instrumentation Coordinator I performs complex instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and high-level disinfection in accordance with manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), AAMI standards, and hospital policy. This role supports case cart readiness, assists with specialty and loaner instrumentation processing, and provides technical guidance to Sterile Technician II staff. The position requires formal sterile processing education and demonstrated competency in advanced instrumentation.

Requirements

  • High School graduate preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Tech Training Program required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification issued through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification issued through The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 6 months of hire is required.
  • Understanding of surgical instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of sterilization methods and biological monitoring.
  • Ability to interpret IFUs and technical instructions.
  • Must maintain knowledge of sterile processing best practices, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
