About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking an Instrumentation, Control, and Electrical (I.C.E.) Technician - Journeyman for its Electric Utility/Generation department. This regular, full-time position involves performing skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation of generation units at the power plants. The role requires installation, repair, calibration, and programming of various instrumentation and control equipment, as well as high voltage electrical equipment. The technician will also perform routine preventative maintenance, prepare and revise electrical drawings, document calibration records, and provide written reports. Safety and compliance with procedures are paramount. The position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program and requires on-call availability.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and completion of an accredited electrical and instrumentation apprenticeship program, or a college accredited electrical and instrumentation degree program (2 year minimum), or other equivalent related experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) years of experience relating to electrical and instrumentation maintenance in a generation plant, process plant environment, or related Electric Utility experience is required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must have a telephone and be willing to be on 24-hour call; must be able to be at the Power Plant within thirty minutes after receiving a call.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to direct the activities of Production Specialist/Apprentices who may be assisting with maintenance activities.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
  • This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation of generation units at the power plants.
  • Installs, repairs, calibrates, and programs a variety of instrumentation and control equipment, including but not limited to: Foxboro I/A DCS hardware and software, Allen Bradley, Woodward, and Yokogawa PLC's, Rockwell Automation and GAP Software, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, Gas Chromatograph, Pressure, Level, Temperature, Flow, and Analytical Transmitters, Bently Nevada Vibration Monitoring, Fire Protection Systems.
  • Installs and repairs high voltage (up to and including 13.8 kv) electrical equipment associated with electric generation, including but not limited to: Generators, Excitation Systems (both rotating and static), Breakers and Switchgear, Batteries, inverters and chargers, A/C Induction Motors, DC Motors, Motor Control Centers, Variable Frequency Drives, Motor Protection Relays.
  • Performs a number of routine preventative maintenance tasks including but not limited to: Light replacement, Filter replacement, Generator brush replacement, Resistance testing, Cleaning and other duties associated with electrical and instrumentation maintenance.
  • Prepares and revises electrical drawings on equipment modifications, documents and maintains calibration records, and provides written reports on equipment repairs and malfunctions.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with safety and security rules, standard operating procedures, and labor agreement terms.
  • Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
