About The Position

Role: 3rd year and 4th year Apprentice Instrumentation Technician Location: Grande Prairie, Alberta or Valleyview, Alberta and must be willing to travel for work Shift: Various Overtime: Project based Pre-Employment Condition: Pre-employment D&A test required

Requirements

  • 3rd or 4th year registered Instrumentation Apprentice
  • A valid Class 5 license with a clean driver abstract.
  • Valid H2S, First Aid, OSSA Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, CSO, and CSTS.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry in construction or maintenance is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in various working conditions ranging from outdoors to indoors in a variety of weather conditions and working from heights as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all company Environmental, Heath, and Safety policies and procedures set out by the HSE department Manager.
  • Assist Journeyperson and other apprentices with the maintenance, replacement, and installation of equipment.
  • Assist with installations requiring instrumentation tubing.
  • Assist with calibrations & should be able to complete calibrations unattended in most situations.
  • Assist with collecting information for QA/QC documents for the Project Managers.
  • Use of hand tools, power tools, testing equipment and specialty tools, such as tubing benders.
  • Use of more advanced calibration equipment such as Hart Communicators, and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Gas Detection, LEL Detection and Fire Detection controllers and sensors.
  • Use of basic Instrumentation Test Equipment & should be able to complete calibrations unattended in most situations.
  • Capable of setting set points on safety shutdown device(s) & should be able to complete calibrations unattended in most situations.
  • Will be able to work alone on or around any ‘live’ process or equipment without a Journeyperson’s presence, or a qualified customer representative’s guidance. – This includes isolation and de-pressuring of any system, until they have displayed confidence and an understanding of the process SOPs but must be following ALL safety procedures.
  • Working with more advanced meter(s) checking for continuity, resistance, voltages & current readings
  • Work on a variety of maintenance and construction projects in the oil and gas industry.
  • Assisting others with basic troubleshooting skills – able to confidently apply their skills & knowledge to form constructive suggestions and implement those details.
  • Able to work on or with more advanced systems such as compressor panels, RTU’s, BMS, Line heaters, and production facility equipment with little to no guidance.
  • Confident in their ability to repair equipment unattended; with follow-up guidance from the Journeyperson if required.
  • Able to calibrate more technical devices such as Pressure, level & Temperature transmitters.
  • Able to confidently repair, order and put into service of equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned.
