About The Position

The Saskatchewan Research Council’s (SRC) REE Commercial Division is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Technologist to support the design, development, and implementation of industrial automation systems. This role is responsible for PLC programming, electrical control panel design, instrumentation integration, and hands-on system assembly and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology, or certification as a Journeyperson Electrician or Journeyperson Instrumentation and Control Technician
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in industrial instrumentation, controls, or commissioning environments
  • Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, and SkyeCAD
  • Proficiency in ladder logic and structured text
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective verbal, written, and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and safety‑focused
  • Required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation and control systems; diagnose and resolve instrumentation, control loop, and signal issues
  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC systems, including integration and input/output checkout of field devices
  • Configure, integrate, and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA systems
  • Design electrical control panels, including layout and component selection, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (BOMs) using CAD tools
  • Assemble, wire, and support fabrication and installation of control panels
  • Support commissioning activities, including functional testing and start-up support
  • Participate in hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and permit-to-work processes
  • Verify instrumentation and controls systems meet design specifications, safety requirements, and operational needs
  • Ensure designs and work practices align with applicable codes, standards, and internal requirements
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including calibration records, test reports, and as-built information
  • Work closely with engineers, technologists, trades, and operations staff; translate field findings into practical design and reliability improvements
